Washington State Legal Information The Washington Gender Alliance believes that it is important that everyone has access to legal information concerning gender issues. To help achieve this we are presenting Washington law including state statutes, municipal codes, Washington court decisions, and federal laws on these issues. In most cases we include the exact text of statutes and codes. We also provide information on how you can find the full text of statutes and codes on the internet. In addition to providing law, we have included some "self-help" information. We will include the text from court documents, letters, and other documents that individuals have successfully used to change their name or sex on legal documents in Washington state. This is what others have done. We are not offering or providing legal advice on how to do any legal action. This page is not created nor maintained by a lawyer. We provide legal materials and examples of what others have done so users can review sections of law related to gender issues and look up or locate the original laws and legal cases to use in their own research, provide them to lawyers working on their cases, or provide information to anyone working on their issues. The law constantly changes. The law presented here may have been researched by us up to a year ago. Every reader should look up the current statute or code to see if any changes have been made since we posted sections to this site. Statutes are also interpreted by courts. Reference to any case discussing a particular section of a statute is necessary to have a full understanding of the meaning of the words in a statute. This Legal Information Page is evolving. We have started with some basic information in a few areas. We will continue to add material as we gather it. If you have reference to a statute, municipal code, or legal case that you think we should post, please send an email to [email protected]. In the subject line put "suggestion." In the body of the email include the citation or reference to the law or case so we can look it up. Please also include a web address where we might find the material. Please do not include information in an attachment to your email, if you want to send text, copy and past it into the email. Thanks for your suggestions, and keep returning to this page to watch it grow. Topics
